| The Top 2000 is an annual radio program by Dutch music station NPO Radio 2, in which the 2000 most popular songs, as voted by the Dutch audience, plays from Christmas through New Year's Eve. A selection of 11 absolute Top 2000 classics from different eras and various genres are bundled on this LP. The beautiful Innuendo by the number 1 artist Queen can be found on the record. More synth influenced classics are recorded by Electric Light Orchestra and The Cure. For rock lovers, there is no shortage of hit songs, from prog heroes Marillion to the grunge band Pearl Jam. Modern sounds can’t be missing, so we selected hip-hop innovator Stromae and the deep soul voice of Amy Winehouse. All in all a versatile and fine Top 2000 collection. Starting in 1999, the Top 2000 was intended to be a one-time event, but due to the program's popularity, Radio 2 chose to make it an annual program. Nowadays the whole Top 2000 consists of a radio program, tv show, concert and New Year’s Eve special. |
